O1LT.COM MUSIC REVIEW: BLACK TY-"GHETTO ROYALTY"!!!

Forget what you know about cookie cutter R&B sensation Tyrese Gibson. Most of us remember him as the young bright eyed soul singer belting out the Coca Cola theme song like no other. Females all across the country were hopping on local transit systems in attempt to find a coke and his smile. But after years of doing the R&B thang, an alter ego has emerged and “Black Ty” is his name. I will be the first to admit that when I got word Tyrese’s was going to put out a rap album I thought the idea was corny and down right stupid. It would seem that his recent street thug roles had gotten the best of him and out of nowhere he thought he could spit 16 bars. But the minute I put in his new mix tape “Ghetto Royalty” my mouth dropped in shock. No matter what people are calling him these days, the last thing you'd call him is whack, the boy got skills. It seemed that his aspiring rap career was almost sidelined earlier this year when tracks from his upcoming project were leaked all over the internet. But it looks like you can’t count a brutha like Black Ty (Tyrese) out, especially when he’s got such a strong hunger to be in the game and get his respect.

The first song “Switch It Up” is ridiculous and Black Ty's lyrical delivery has an unlikely finesse that is hot. As I listened to this album every track seemed to get better and better…with the exception of “Give It Te Me Girl” feat Memphis Bleek and “The Watcher” “Ghetto Royalty” is worthy of the respect of any rapper in the game today. I do believe that Black Ty is the first hip hop artist to get Stevie Wonder to appear on a track. (Will Smith’s “Wild Wild West” doesn’t count) and that in itself is miraculous.

Black Ty’s lyrical project reflects his growth as an artist, rapper and entertainer. He stands to give current rappers in the game serious competition when his album drops. As much as I would love to hate on Black Ty, as much as I would love to tell everyone this is CD is garbage and to not waste your time, I cant. Black Ty is doing his thing and “Ghetto Royalty” is on fiyah. There’s a line he says on “Get Cake” feat Cassidy: “I’m gonna get mine. Whether it’s singing, rhyming or whatever it is, I’m about my money”. I have to say that I tend to agree with him. If this CD is anything like his new album "Alter Ego" which hits stores on November 28th (J. Records) I will be sliding into a record store to get my copy.

This black female celebrity tries to have a innocent image. In reality, she is a stone cold freak behind closed doors. Nothing is too freaky for her. She has even dressed up as a dominatrix. She goes all out trying to please her men but it doesn't seem to work because she has no problem getting a man, she just can't keep a man. On one occasion, she got into it with another female singer (one hit wonder, just as freaky) when she walked in on the singer 'going downtown' on her famous man, they came to blows before they were separated. This same man, taped himself having sex with our female celebrity (without her knowledge) and continues to show this tape to a chosen few. I had the opportunity to view this tape, our female celebrity could have easily been mistaken as a porn star. Since this incident, she has been in a string of relationships, she has been kicked to the curb by a few men, another man tried to throw her out of her a speeding car (that she was paying the note on). She has become so desperate and pathetic for male attention, she is now giving men gifts. Similar to a "sugar mama."

BLIND ITEM #2 by Algiers

This white 'liberal' female celebrity pretends like she fights for minority causes. This all changed when her son started dating a bi-racial pre-med student. She went ballistic. She tried everything in her power to break up the relationship. She even called the young woman, demanding to know every ounce of her lineage and she often referred to the girlfriend as "the nurse" despite the fact she was studying to become a doctor. She became so out of control, her husband tried to rein her in. The harassment became so severe, the pre-med student broke off the relationship and our white female liberal went back to fighting causes for the underdog.

Come close to your computer screen. OK that’s to close, back up a little. So listen Myra Panache is reporting that John Legend is saying it is possible to be a "gentleman" and still be tempted away from your girlfriend while on the road. He goes on to say "I've just started dating someone so I don't want to jinx it by talking about it. "We'll see how it goes but the music business is the worst one to sustain relationships in because you're in a different city every day and you have lots of women throwing themselves at you. "So you have to be disciplined and be with someone who trusts you-and who you don't want to cheat on. "But there's always another woman around the corner, so it's hard to settle down because you feel you might be missing out on something. "You can be a gentleman and yet still feel that way."

The one thing I hate about myself yet love about myself is my ability to see through bullshit. Now I have defended Kanye West (which most of you bit my head off for doing so) about his “suspicious” ways, but I’m sorry I can’t sit back and let this one go. It is my opinion that the only thing John Legend finds “hard” about being on the road is which male companion(s) will accompany him to his hotel room, there I said it. Close your mouth you were thinking it too. Why do I feel like I am going to regret this comment? Love the music John.

O1LT: For those who don’t know who will contribute weekly columns to Hip-Hop Weekly?

Dave: We got a lot of great contributors in the magazine --Wendy Williams is doing a two-page column in every issue so she will be bringing all her gossip and inside information and unique perspective. Star and Buc Wild will be doing a page in the magazine every issue. We have Cynthia Horner who is the long time editor and chief of Right On and Black Beat magazine who is doing a column. The guys from mixtapekings.com will be doing a situation on a mixtapes in every issue. Sonny who is a pretty well known radio host here in NY who will is doing a food and dining column. There are few other people; we have a lot of really good contributors

O1LT: How challenging is to put together a weekly publication verses a monthly publication?

Dave: It’s a different beast, we are learning as we go along. It’s different but it’s actually an easier type of format once you understand it and organize it. Even though you have more frequency and a deadline every 8-10 days (next year we will go weekly, right now we are just a bi-weekly publication). There are a lot of advantages to this format that don’t exist in a monthly format like The Source.


O1LT: How involved are the two of you in the overall operations of Hip-Hop Weekly.?

Dave: Very involved, this our baby!! This is our new venture and a way of getting back into the multi-media and entertainment game. So this magazine is very much a daily focus for us.

O1LT: Considering all that you two have done for hip-hop - - at the height of The Source magazine controversy did you ever feel like people in hip hop community turned there backs on you?

Dave: Um..Yea! I think that I expected one or two influential people to step and support the issues that we raised; I think that it would have made a big difference. In retrospect I have learned to not expect that. I don’t have any bad feelings about it. I stand behind everything that we did. Are there things that I would do differently? Of course! Did I learn from my mistakes? Yes! I’ve made a lot of mistakes over the years, but I hope to be able to apply what I’ve learned from those things to the new situation that I am launching now.

O1LT: Due to how you parted with The Source magazine is their any remaining conflict with other artists?

Dave: Not at all – Benzino and I have gotten a lot of love from artists and producers and the people of hip-hop for a long time. We have a long track record of giving and showing people a lot of love. We have touched a lot of people in every community across the United States. We’ve gotten good support and we expect to get even greater support. Every one who has seen the magazine loves it. It’s an outlet that is very much needed. With the support of the public buying the magazine, everything else will fall into place. I will say that this is a format that doesn’t really require the support of artist’s to make the magazine; this is format where you aren’t doing a lot of interviews or in depth stuff. It’s covering news and you don’t need to have the artists participating in the magazine. It would make it better if they do, but if they don’t it’s not a problem.

O1LT: Where do you see The Source going now that you two are no longer affiliated with the magazine?

Dave: I think it’s already shown to have gone down a lot. I think it’s changed a lot. People are seeing that the quality of the magazine has suffered. Ray and I had a vision and our personalities -- who we are is a lot of what made The Source what it was. When you take that away then you are left with something completely different. I don’t know what’s going to happen with them. I just know that Hip Hop Weekly is going to make a big impact. We have a lot of people have who read The Source over the years that are supporters of me and Benzino. And I think that those people will support us on this new venture. We will see what happens. We will see what the future holds.

Case in point Nelly Furtado’s assistant got served a beat down after accidentally being left behind as Nelly entered the club. When her assistant tried to let the bouncer know that he is with Nelly, that’s when all hell broke loose. I’m telling you I know me and had I of been in that situation I would be in prison for life. Let me just say that I am pro New York hip-hop and I am desperate for the North to take hip-hop music back from the south, but I am not that desperate. Here is a track from Diddy’s new album “Press Play”-“Everything I Love”. Of course Nas is doing what Nas does and in my opinion he is the only thing making this track tolerable. Cee-Lo’s talent is wasted on this track, but don’t take my word for it.

HOW TO SPOT A DL BROTHER!!!

Byron Crawford has posted an interesting report on DL Brothers and how to spot them out. Its very interesting and kind of funny. Ladies don't take it to literally, just take it as a good read.

A Guide for the Ladies According to a recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, nearly one in ten men who claim to be straight also happen to have sex with other men. Furthermore, 70% of these DL brothers also happen to be married to women. Yikes! The health implications are obvious, with the scourge that is AIDS reaching epidemic levels in the black community and especially among black women. As a public service (no Paul Reubens) to my sisters, I put together the following common sense guide to whether or not your man is on the DL. Note: For the remainder of this post, I'll be instituting a special state of no homo Juelz Santana.

Five signs your man might be on the down low:

Has he been to prison? Sadly, a lot of brothers pick up these dl tendencies in the joint. Because there aren't any women around, they begin to tell themselves that it's okay to fuck other guys, but they never quite fully accept the fact that they're gay. Indeed once they get out they try to live like straight men, but it can be difficult to give up bufu-ing once you've developed a taste for it. A woman just isn't going to be tight enough anymore.

What kind of jewelry does he wear? Not that I own anything other than a high school class ring, but I personally tend to avoid wearing any jewelry altogether. A gold chain or two might be acceptable for certain ethnic minorities, but once it crosses the line into pinky rings and big-ass earrings and what have you, I'd advise you to steer way clear. Multiple piercings are another dead giveaway. General rule of thumb: If he's rocking a tongue ring, he might have AIDS.

Has he taken you to the California Pizza Kitchen? There's a lot of shit a straight man just doesn't do, and eating a pizza with 15 different types of shit that's not made out of pork would have to be chief among them. General rule of thumb: If he drinks any kind of malt liquor beverage that's not beer, he might have AIDS.

Does he own any Maxwell CDs? Check the nigga's CD collection. If there's an abundance of R&B music produced after, say, 1996, then he might be gay. Personally, I wouldn't trust any man who owns a Maxwell CD. Even that first one with "Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)."

Is he really into physical fitness? This is a tricky one, because a woman's natural Darwin tendency is to have sex with men who are in good physical condition. That said, a brother that's rocking a six pack is naturally going to be that much more suspect than a brother that's rocking the proverbial fuel tank for a sex machine, especially if he doesn't have any reason to work out other than the fact that he "likes to look good in a suit." General rule of thumb: If he likes to rock tight-ass shirts to show off his physique, he might have AIDS.

STAR "DAMN"JONES IS PISSED!!!!!

Star Jones has given the National Enquirer an ultimatum: either admit that a story calling her her marriage a "sham" is untrue, or prepare to do battle in court (and remember, Star is a lawyer).

Bob Chapman, the high-powered attorney who represents Star and Al, tells TMZ that the Enquirer's story that Al is gay and the marriage is falling apart is not true. Chapman insists, "They are happily married," adding that Star is "emotional and stressed out" over the story.

Janet’s appearance on Oprah yesterday was very enlightening. It’s good to see her wearing some clothes for a change. ("I keed, I keed Janet") I had to admit that whenever she performs now all I focus on are her breast. I know it’s sad for me to say what I am bout to say but though I don’t get excited when it comes to celebrities, I could see myself freaking out over Janet Jackson!!! O1LT.COM SPECIAL REPORT-BIGGEST ACTS TURNING OUT TO BE THE BIGGEST FLOPS!!!

The world's biggest acts turning out to be the biggest flops!

It seems that the biggest acts can’t seem to sell records according to billboard.com. Three top tier entertainers that have always dominated the charts have failed to reach gold status after most of them have been on Billboard for at least three weeks. Here is my full report

Christina Aguilera: After being on the charts for 5 weeks her newest album “Back to Basics” has failed to sell over 500,000 copies and hasn’t been certified gold by the RIAA. Christina Aguilera’s last album “Stripped” sold over 12 millions copies world wide, but her latest musical project is looking to me more of flop.

Beyoncé Knowles: Now before I say what I am about to say, please understand that I am not attacking Ms. Knowles. I am just comparing past sales records to current sales figures. I realize that she has only been on the Billboard 200 for two weeks, but compared to previous sales results she should already be on her way to a platinum album which doesn’t seem to be the case. One thing I find completely interesting about her latest album is that it reportedly sold 541,000 copies in its first week according to soundscan, yet billboard hasn’t certified it gold on their charts. I pay close attention to the billboard weekly, hell even daily sometimes and I know they are pretty thorough in their chart updating. What I also find VERY interesting is after being on the charts for just one week “B-Day” sales plummeted from 541,000 copies to 162,000 copies. All that tells me is that fans weren’t the only one’s buying albums. Someone else had have helped along the way, her record label perhaps?

OutKast: With all the rumors of a break up it seems that fans have mix feelings about the future of Outkast. The pioneering southern hip-hop group that brought us all such great hits like “Mrs. Jackson”, “Rosa Parks”, and "B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)" has seemed to go their own ways musically. Their latest CD hit stores in August in conjunction with their first movie as a group “IdleWild”, and though their movie was a mild success, fans seemed to lose interest in Outkast’s music capability on this album after just one week. The “IdleWild” Soundtrack debuted at number 2 selling over 196,000 copies. But after being on the charts for more then 3 weeks it has also failed to sale over 500,000 copies. A failure in comparison to their last album “Speakerboxx/The Love Below”, which sold 10 million copies to date.

Either music fans are losing interests with today’s current music, or these artists have been around too long where people have lost interest.Whatever the reason is you can’t help but notice that at the end of the day the lack of sales of their CD’s will affect their bottom line. No matter what the may say artists want and need to sale records. Let’s hope we see a turn around going into the holiday season.

MEDIATAKEOUT.COM A NO GO!!!!

Due to reasons beyond my control I am sorry to report that I will not be contributing music reviews with mediatakeout.com. Late last week I announced that I was going to be their new music critic in an attempt to expand my site traffic by being affiliated with theirs, but after a few days of working together we have both agreed to end the original offer. It seems we had “creative differences” and it just doesn’t look like its going to be a good fit. I want to thank everyone for their emails of congragulations, and shout outs. Special shout out to Myra Pananche of the panachereport.com for all her support and special shout out she gave me on her Thursday report. We will keep doing our thing here, bringing you whats "Hot and Black" in black entertainment.

When one door closes another one slams in your face, no I’m kidding, I am happy to report that I am now the music critic for SWMUR Radio, a west coast radio station dedicated to hip hop and R&B music. So to all my west coast heads look out for that in the upcoming days. Everyone else can go here to find out more. Also O1LT.com has launched our own music reviews. We kind of did a few in the past as unofficial rants, but now we are going to start doing full fledge reviews about your most favorite artists. There are three along the sidebar. O1LT.COM "HOT AND BLACK" MUSIC REVIEW-LUDACRIS-"RELEASE THERAPY"!!

Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges releases his fifth studio album “Release Therapy” on September 26 and I have to admit that I wasn’t all thrilled to review his latest lyrical project. Though I am proud of Ludacris for his accomplishments in the acting realm, musically he seems to be getting less and less original with each album. His first official album “Back for the First Time” in my opinion is a classic, but if you’re a true hip-hop fan then you can’t deny that he’s lost touch with what made him interesting to begin with. He’s lost the hunger he had to make good music.

His first single “Money Maker” feat. Pharell was completely clichéd, talking about the same things he always does-money, sex, and women. Hip-hop is dying slowly and I expect artists to recharge and reinvent themselves in a genre of music that is becoming stale and boring. Putting it plainly I want to be excited and Ludacris fails miserably with this album. He’s not saying anything that he hasn’t said before. There’s no originality, and it’s very redundant. On a day when other artists like Janet Jackson and Ruben Studdard also have albums on store shelves, I will choose one of their albums rather then this one. “Release Therapy” isn’t even worthy to be a drink coaster.

Like many of you when I heard Janet Jackson was making another album I thought myself “why bother”? After the infamous nipple gate incident, that has gotten her blacklisted from MTV, I didn’t see a point. But more importantly I didn’t think she could do it. Her last album “Damita Jo” was lack luster to say the least and bombed on Billboard, so I cast Janet on that island of has been’s and looked on to the next artist to rightfully take her place. (Beyoncé maybe)

But I have to admit she put her foot in this new album “Twenty Years Old”. This new CD is marking Janet’s twenty year career span in the business. The album is definitely retrospective with a modern hip hop enthused twist that is sure to surprise everyone who listens to it. Obviously music has changed a lot since Janet was on top of her game, and with Twenty Years Old, she didn’t miss a beat. She busts open the gate on her new album with her current single “So Excited” feat. Khia. Listen I know her first single “Call on Me” was just OK, hell lets call it what it was it was whack, but when I tell you this new album is going blow you away is an understatement. The minute you hear this CD your going to be surprised that the youngest Jackson, who is still older compared to all the other artists in the current music scene is still here and can still give these chicks a run for their money. Though her brother is certifiably over, Janet still has some bump in her bounce. And might I add what a freak she seems to be with three sexually laced songs “Do It to Me”, “This Body” and “Take Care”. I am “so excited”, no pun intended, to see her on tour. It seems Janet is giving all of us who doubted her the middle finger as she is sure to have yet another number one album up under her belt.

If you don’t get this album then you’re probably just a hater who is still waiting around for Michael to Return as the King of Pop.

O1LT.COM "HOT AND BLACK" MUSIC REVIEW-LUPE FIASCO-"FOOD AND LIQUOR"!!!!

Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco’s debut album “Food & Liquor” is arguably one of the most anticipated hip-hop albums of the year. Earlier this year Lupe fell victim to an unfortunate album leak, and has also seen his album get pushed back several times by his record company. Just when it looked like his album was never going to arrive, finally it has.

“Food and Liquor” lives up to its hype. Executive produced by Jay-Z, Chill, and the Lupe himself, this album shows Lupe’s true talent and diversity that hip-hop is in need of. He is speaking the truth, and it’s refreshing to hear someone in hip-hop talk about things other then cars, girls, and money. With guest appearances from Jill Scott, Matthew Santos, and self proclaimed “best rapper alive” Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco’s newest musical effort is not to be overlooked. His talent is undeniable, and on this album he truly shines.

BLIND ITEMS!!!!

You know its not a Friday with out Myra Panache's blind items... Have A good Weekend!

This black female celebrity is "too many people." By day, she has given motivational and inspirational speeches to young black girls regarding self esteem, black empowerment and unity yet she is a lesbian who preys on white women.

I once witnessed her in action.

I was on vacation in the Caribbean, locals were buzzing about a celebrity hanging out at a particular beach. When we arrived at the beach, there she was, her blonde lover was lovingly rubbing her back with sun screen, afterwards, they kissed on the lips.

Our call girl sources inform us, she is a repeat customer at escort agencies across the country and she always requests "blondes only." This woman keeps the sex industry thriving.

Despite her black empowerment and unity rhetoric during daytime hours, it's interesting that she once gave a few white girlfriends money to invest in businesses yet she is always talking about 'blacks don't invest enough in their own businesses' while she continues to finance white women with businesses, cars, allowances and bling.

Black strippers have informed us, "this black militant by day" shuns them in favor of white girls. She doesn't even acknowledge their presence but she is known to stuff wads of $100 dollar bills into the g-strings of blonde strippers.

Some exotic dancers rely on her generosity to pay their bills, they become ecstatic when they find out she's going to be arriving at the club. When she arrives, they surround her.

We reported last year that this same woman belonged to a "underground lesbian clique of famous black women" but dropped out when they refused to integrate the clique.

She is also a regular in the VIP section of gentlemen's clubs where she receives lap dances.
