By L.T. Dinwiddie No matter how much good you try and do evil will always lurk around the corner. After being published in magazines, newspapers, and blogs globally for her South African Humanitarian efforts it seems Oprah is back in the headlines for a completely 180 degree’s story.
A man has been charged with trying to extort $1.5 million from Oprah Winfrey by threatening to release recorded telephone conversations he claimed would hurt her reputation, according to the FBI and published reports. Keifer Bonvillain, 36, targeted a person identified only as "a public figure and the owner of a Chicago-based company," according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court. The Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times, citing unnamed sources, reported Saturday that Bonvillain's target was Winfrey.
Bonvillain, of Atlanta, was arrested Dec. 15 in the parking lot of an Atlanta hotel and released on $20,000 bail. He was scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Chicago on Monday. According to the complaint, Bonvillain met a California-based employee of the Chicago company at a party more than two years ago, then recorded conversations with the employee about the owner and her business.
In mid-October he sent the owner an e-mail, telling her an employee said awful things about her, the complaint states.
A month later, Bonvillain sent a letter saying he had tapes of the conversations, an FBI agent alleges in the complaint. In response, another associate of the company called Bonvillain and learned he had taped 12 hours of those discussions.
Over the next few weeks, Bonvillain told the associate he wanted to publish a book based on the tapes and claimed he had received offers of $500,000 to $3 million from tabloids and book publishers, the complaint said.FULL STORYRead More...Collapse...

The holidays are over and the celebrity scandals have already started, and the first one to bust open the gate is none other then Tyrese Gibson, AKA Black Ty. According to TMZ, police are conducting a criminal investigation into allegations that R & B singer Tyrese punched his pregnant girlfriend in the arm and thigh early this morning.
Police sources tell us that Tyrese's live-in girlfriend claimed that the two got into a heated argument around 5:30 AM at their Los Angeles home. According to our sources, paramedics responded after Tyrese allegedly struck the woman, who is three months pregnant, twice and then drove away from the scene.FULL STORYONLY A PUNK HITS A WOMAN!!!!!!!! I’m not saying, I’m just saying!
Poor Trevor (Busta Rhymes)! First his baby’s mother leaves him for another WOMAN. Then he suffered an embarrassing flop with the Big Bang. Earlier last year he allegedly assaulted some gays in Miami. And, we can’t forget about his refusal to assist the police regarding the fatal shooting of one of his security team members – Ramirez. But, if that wasn’t bad enough now he’s been thrusted back into the celebrity “loser” fray by being arrested for “allegedly” serving a beatdown to some dude over money. With such bad luck over the past 12 months I just imagine Ramirez’s family standing on the edge of their porch with their fingers pointed in the sky, much like how Celie did from The Color Purple, shouting out “until you do right by us, everything you think about is going to fail”. That’s the thing about Karma..its a bitch!FULL STORY An Academy Award nomination seems almost eminent for Ms. Jennifer Hudson. She already received a Golden Globe nomination for her superb performance as Effie White in the hit movie — “DreamGirls” And, now she can celebrate even more as her acting peers have nominated her for her riveting performance. If you’re familiar with award shows, particularly movie awards, then you know that usually when an actor garners such prestigious acknowledgements it usually brings home the BIGGEST acting prize. Let’s see what happens. I have my fingers crossed. Though, its great news for Jennifer, and Eddie, Beyonce failed to garner a nomination proving that she might need to hit her acting chops a little bit harder. Beyonce was quoted once as saying “I want to win an Oscar, A Golden Globe, A Grammy, and a Tony." Well one out of four aint bad.FULL STORY Has Tyson Beckford recently gotten married? With the New Year officially started. It’s time for, former contestant of Flavor of Love, and all around DIVA, New York (Tiffany Polland) to take her place amongst VH1’s royalty as her new show is looking to be more popular then Flavor Flave ever was. Here is a preview of her new show. I love New York, that I got from my girl Juicy from Juicy-News (make sure you vote for her). I know where I will be on Monday mights. I'll be on my perch, with my white cheddar cheezits in tow to catch the overzealous, and testosterone enthused, New York do her thing to these 15 minute of fame seeking chumps. Oh and by the way, I am already loving her new gay sidekick, Chamo.
A federal judge yesterday temporarily froze movement of O.J. Simpson's assets until he decides the fate of a bid by murder victim Ron Goldman's family to get the dough the ex-football star was paid for his failed "If I Did It" book and TV deal. The Goldmans sued Simpson last month, alleging his pact with News Corp.'s ReganBooks and Fox network was a fraud. They contend he unlawfully funneled his estimated $1 million paycheck to a dummy corporation to duck paying them and other creditors, including American Express.FULL STORY
Hip Hop Weekly, the gossipy-rap-tabloid that is sure to get both founders and sexual harassers Ray Benzino and Dave Mays shot, need to learn how to attribute sources, especially when they just thieve content without consent. In Issue 4 of their piss poor-cheapest paper to ever be printed on-rumor rag, they straight jacked a whole page of quotes and didn’t give any credit or ask for permission to reprint it. They lifted the now infamous Lil Wayne interview we did in our last issue for their ‘Word On the Street’ section (pg. 16). Word for word they reprinted quotes with no credits and definitely no green light from us. FULL STORY
Let me just say that I have dealt with HHW (Hip-Hop Weekly) on a professional level and haven’t experienced any negative situations from anyone on the HHW staff. If anything I have gotten strong support and encouragement that I never expectedafter receiving such negative feedback from a few of my writing colleagues I have personally interviewed Dave Mays for this site and he left me, and still leaves me, with the utmost impression that he’s just a man about his business. Whether, you like Bezino and Dave or not really doesn’t matter a hill of beans in the publishing world.
Let’s keep it real, and I hate to say this, but black publications are 75% shady in their business practices. I’ve written for black and non black magazines so I feel like I can make such a bold statement. For magazines to call one another out is really the pots calling the kettles black. It is what it is in the publishing world. Please don’t be fooled. I’m not on anybody’s side, becuase I’m the H.N.I.C. at this spot, but I have to call it like I see it.

O1LT.COM "HOT AND BLACK" REPORT-WHITNEY HOUSTON/OMARION/DIDDY/THE EVIL OF THE SWEET 16!!!
I'm sorry for the short report, but there's not much going on in the realm of celebrities. Trust me, I looked!
By L.T. Dinwiddie
Few people can sing like Whitney Houston. But next week, anyone with some spare cash can dress like the Grammy winner, right down to one of her black velvet bustiers, and croon into one of her microphones.
Those items and more than 300 others from a 1999 world tour, including grand pianos, drum kits and a forklift, will be auctioned Tuesday in an effort to cover unpaid storage fees on the gear and clothing, said Jeffrey Campisi, a lawyer for Speed of Sound, a company that has been tending to the equipment. A quick glance at this week's Billboard albums chart shows not only what finished on top — R&B hunk Omarion's sophomore LP, 21 — but the large number of albums that sustained painful post-Christmas sales hits.
For the second time in his brief career as a solo artist, the ex-member of B2K scores himself a chart-topping opening, selling 119,000-plus copies of his latest. Omarion's first LP, 2005's O, also bowed at #1 but sold about 60,000 more units FULL STORY
It is my belief that shows like MTV’s “Sweet 16” is ruining the fabric of our young social society. Was that a bit much? Ok let me put it more plainly— MTV’s “Sweet 16” is making spoiled brats the new trend amongst kids these days. If you haven’t watched the highly entertaining, yet questionable reality program, then let me educate you on what the premise of this show is. Somewhere along the chronological line we’ve all come to hail the dawn of the 16th birthday. When I was growing up, like many of you, when a girl turns 16 years old it seems to be celebrated as a right of passage from a girl transforming into a woman. But, times have apparently changed as MTV has acted as the fly on the wall to overly spoiled teenagers on their hit new reality show.
Middle to upper class parents open up their wallets and their 401k’s to assure that his or her child’s B-day celebration is of “celebrity status”. On one episode you can see a 16 year old teenager manipulating her father into receiving an all white 2005 Range Rover. In another you can see the son of LA Reid handing out ipods where there is a pre-recorded invitation awaiting his eager party invitee.
When this show debuted I thought it was interesting. Though, I had my concerns I thought it was harmless. However, now that this show is in its second season (or is it third), I’m starting to look at it with a crooked eye. What you see now more often then not are the parents who are trying to get their 15 minutes of fame by shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars to make all their young adult’s dreams come true. As noble of gesture it may be. What does it teach our young adolescents? Am I the only one who finds fault in giving a young person everything their heart desire? How do they learn to appreciate it? Most, if not all, of the kids on this show don’t even hold down part time jobs.
My sentiments were echoed yesterday morning on Atlanta’s popular radio show Frank Ski and Wanda’s Morning Show. On today’s program, Frank Ski has decided to take his children on an all expense paid trip to China, when V103 has their annual out of country excursion, in a couple of months. Funny co-host Wanda. and traffic reporter, Faith Jones, were both eminently against the idea stating that lavish trips as sucht might spoil his children rather then provide them cultural enlightenment that Mr. Ski is trying to provide them with.
Is it me, or have we all as parents tried to give our children everything we never got and in the end are destroying their value system?
Somebody help me understand this? But, in the meantime check out this clip that juicy-news.blogspot has provided.
Can somebody please, for the love of God, hand Puffy the memo that his rap career is OVER. He just refuses to give up. He's released another single from what is arguably the biggest flop of 2006--Press Play. It's sad to watch an old timer cling to the spotlight in such a desperate manner.
Shout out to my homegirl Sandra Rose for finding this interesting information on Beyonce.
You can not only forget about Beyonce Knowles winning an Oscar for best actress this year. (If you haven't heard, a certain ingenue keeps upstaging her throughout "Dreamgirls." And in the race for best comedy/musical actress, she's up against a real devil — Meryl Streep — who knows a lot about winning Globes.) Now it looks like Beyonce won't win as a songwriter either — for "Listen," one of the original new tunes added to the original Broadway score. Officially, she's listed as one of the song's four writers, but the motion-picture academy only permits three names — max — as a credit. To see the specific language of its Rule 16 —CLICK HERE
The Oscars' songwriting branch has decided to qualify Henry Krieger, Anne Preven and Scott Cutler. No explanation is given for why Beyonce is excluded over the others. Is this just one of those cases of where the singer insisted upon having her name added to credits as part of her performance deal? In media interviews, she's often said that she was truly involved in its songwriting. Apparently, not to the extent as her three collaborators, according to the Oscars.FULL STORYRead More...Collapse...
O1LT.COM "HOT AND BLACK" REPORT-DREAMGIRLS/JAMES BROWN/OPRAH/MICHAEL JACKSON/DARRENT WILLIAMS!!!!!
By L.T. Dinwiddie
OH HOW I HAVE MISSED YOU ALL!!!! Happy New Year to everyone! I don’t know about you all but I am coming into this New Year rejuvenated, excited, and ready to go. I trust everyone’s holiday went well, I know mine did. We’ve got a lot to cover so let’s get into it.
First thing’s first. If you haven’t seen the highly anticipated film DreamGirls you need to "Listen" up. We all knew Jennifer Hudson as the contestant who faced a premature demise on the hit show American Idol. However, now we can all call her the ultimate idol as the budding actor, singer, and overall artistic sensation is destined to make history with her riveting performance in DreamGirls. The publicity train for this feature film was unparallel as today’s top tier entertainers like Danny Glover, Eddie Murphy, Jaime Foxx, Anika-Noni Rose, Beyonce Knowles, and the incomparable Ms. Jennifer Hudson gave stellar performances in this Broadway adaptation. The reviews were very positive for this film, but despite that fact, the person who has been getting the most praise has been the incredibly young powerhouse Hudson. I had been granted access to see a private viewing of DreamGirls, but I declined. Instead, I chose to view the film with non-industry people on opening day, December 25, 2006.
To call this movie “magical” is an understatement. The casting for this film was superb as it was abundantly clear that everyone brought his or her “A” game. After viewing this fine film three times I can personally say that when Jennifer belts out the legendary, “And I’m Telling You”, the theater explodes with a thunderous applause. No matter what your feelings are about J. HUD’s rendition compared to Jennifer Holiday’s version. You can’t deny that Hudson didn’t put her foot in that song. I’ve heard Jennifer Holiday’s version more times then I can count. And, I know for a fact that there were notes that Hudson hit that Holiday couldn’t (or hasn’t) belted, even on her best day.
As black people we always criticize Hollywood for making negative or stereotypical black films. African American leaders, often, stand on their soap boxes demanding for more color on screen and on television. Well, here it is! It’s time to put our money where our mouths are. GO OUT AND SUPPORT THIS MOVIE!!!!BOX OFFICE RESULTSLOCAL LISTINGS FOR SHOW TIMES
Speaking of Legendary….The music industry suffered a huge blow over the holiday week. James Brown, The Godfather of Soul, passed. I’m not going to lie when I first heard the news I was saddened but the only thing I could think about was my last minute holiday shopping, and of course DreamGirls. But after getting a serious tongue lashing from an associate of mine for not reporting on it the minute it happened. It made me realize the importance, and contribution James Brown has made to music, especially hip-hop. For that I am sorry. I hope I can some how make up for it. Here is a breakdown of all his accomplishments. JAMES BROWN BIO
After taking about it for almost five years now the time is finally here. TV Daytime Queen Oprah has opened up her 40 million dollar “Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in outside Johannesburg, South Africa. Tina Turner, Chris Rock, Mariah Carey, BabyFace, Gayle King, and others all came out to support the monumental accomplishment. FULL STORY In other related Oprah News…
Did Oprah snub inner city schools stateside to help out South African’s instead? Oprah also knows that some people will complain that charity should begin at home, even though she has provided millions of dollars to educate poor children in the United States, especially via her Oprah Winfrey Scholars Program. But she sees the two situations as entirely different. "Say what you will about the American educational system—it does work," she says. "If you are a child in the United States, you can get an education." And she doesn't think that American students—who, unlike Africans, go to school free of charge—appreciate what they have. "I became so frustrated with visiting inner-city schools that I just stopped going. The sense that you need to learn just isn't there," she says. "If you ask the kids what they want or need, they will say an iPod or some sneakers. In South Africa, they don't ask for money or toys. They ask for uniforms so they can go to school." So, the Jordan’s got divorced over the holiday. Do we care?FULL STORY
Bronco’s cornerback Darrent Williams was killed early Monday when his white stretch Hummer was sprayed by bullets after a nightclub dispute following a New Year's Eve party.Police have no motive and no indication the 24-year-old player was targeted in the drive-by shooting of the limousine. The burst of violence occurred hours after the Broncos were eliminated from playoff contention. "All of us are devastated by this tragedy,"Broncos owner Pat Bowlen said in a statement. "To lose a young player, and more important, a great young man such as Darrent Williams, is incomprehensible. To lose him in such a senseless manner as this is beyond words." FULL STORY
I really wish Michael Jackson would get the memo. Nobody cares about a damn comeback album. If Janet couldn’t sell records, what in the hell makes Mike think he’s got a chance in hell of selling a record? Black Eyed Peas principal will.i.am was ubiquitous behind the boards in 2006, producing tracks for Justin Timberlake, Fergie, Snoop Dogg and Nas and earning a producer of the year Grammy nomination. But his sights are now set on Michael Jackson's comeback album, which is tentatively due before the end of the year on the Bahrain-based Two Seas Records.FULL STORY
Be sure to check out my other job over at Sohh.com. I'm doing big things. There are new and exciting things on the horizon.
Recently, a source told me, this particular "video girl" has herpes. Everyone in hip-hop knows it-but this doesn't stop men, including hip-hop stars, from trying to get with her. Granted, a few men have angrily confronted her about giving them herpes.
Sadly, she has a nonchalant attitude about transmitting the disease. She's playing with fire, especially in the hip-hop industry. I spoke with another source who worked with her on a project, she said, this video girl is very insecure and has a dislike for black women.
She uses the hip-hop arena to get with as many black men as she can while dissing/sabotaging black women (especially video girls) behind their backs. This girl has issues, don't be surprised if she eventually ends up on the Internet with a "incall/outcall," escort site.
Medical Warning: Condoms don't prevent herpes because it's transmitted through "skin-to-skin," contact.
