    Holiday Woes................

The day before yesterday I had a horrible experience happen to me. I was at a retail store with my significant other, and we were purchasing holiday assortments. We were planning on being in the house for the whole holiday enjoying each others company. When we left this particular retail store, I noticed my wallet was missing. “Yes” ladies and gentlemen I lost my wallet with cash, credit cards, social security card, and checks on the day before Thanksgiving(Which one of you people put a hex on me?). I tried to back track but it was getting late in the day and most stores were closing, so I had to just bite the bullet and deal with the fact that I lost it. I could'nt be upset with anyone but myself. Had I have paid more attention to what I was doing I wouldn’t be in this situation. But it got me to thinking as well. Not only did I lose my vital information, but none of my information is current on any of my checks, DL card, or anything. If someone were to find it where would they even send it? There isn’t a number to contact me, and the address on my license is so old that it wouldn’t even forward. All in all not a good day, for me and so I decided to pass this information to you with a few tips on how to avoid my situation.

    1. Keep your information current on your identification
    2. Implement a “If found card” in your wallet with a number on how to get a hold of you should someone find it
    3. Don’t carry around your Social Security card
    4. Try to keep your license in the car, and get a state issued Identification to use as your source of identity
    5. Make sure before you leave the cash register that you don’t allow anyone to rush you get your things together.

These are just some helpful hints that I hope can help someone else during this holiday season.

    Until Next Time…………

    AMA'S AN ANNUAL DISSAPOINTMENT

Last night I watched in agony, the American Music Awards "2005". The show was horrible! What once used to be an award show that had stellar talent, and jaw dropping performances has been reduced to a high school talent show. With performers like Hillary Duff who lip synched, and Lindsay Lohan who also lip synched and the astonishing amount of "B" to "C" celebrities ( Will Smith, Jada, Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw excluded), it is no wonder why year after year the AMA's sink lower, and lower in the ratings. Mariah Carey's usual lack luster performance was the show's opener, and with her stiff movements, and fluttering hand gestures, you watch her with your nose pulled up rather then watch in amazement. She should have been shuffled somewhere between Hillary, and Lindsay. The shows opener should be about "SHOWMANSHIP", and a "JAW DROPPING PERFORMANCE", there is a line in Mariah Carey's new song that says” She’ll never be M.C." and thank god for that. On a personal note has Mariah Carey gained weight or is it just me? She looked stuffed in that gown from the hips up. It’s like if she bent over to much with her hand over her ear (like she always does) she was going to bust out of that gown. Is that Diva?? There is so much to comment on, but one has to ask "WHO THE HELL PICKED CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER AS THE HOST???" I am so exhausted by all of this that I can’t even finish watching the show. All in all not a good show and I won’t be back next year. If it’s a choice between AMA'S, and dry paint. I'll choose the latter. At least in my mind while I’m watching the dry paint I can pit M.C. against Lindsay Lohan in my own head to head talent show.

DONT YOU JUST LOVE MARY FOR BEING MARY!

I didnt even see the 2005 Vibe awards, but I have walked, no "RAN" past newspaper stands with my hands over my eyes to not see the new Vibe magazine cover that has the Queen of Hip Hop Soul looking like an ethiopian chicken head. When one's eyes gazes upon the glossy cover what are you think? My knee jerk reaction was "What the hell was Mary thinking??". Its nice to know that she is as digusted as we all are. As we know Mary is a confident, outspoken woman, and recently she reminded us all why we love Mary. In last weeks Vibe Award show, Mary was being honored with Vibe legend award, but took alot more then just pretigous award(if thats what you can call it, im trying Vibe). She took our attention, to denounce the cover.
Here is what she had to say that was cut out of the show. "No disrespect, but I really hated the way you guys shaved off my head, pushed my forehead way back behind my ears. I'm just insulted, so that's no respect on the cover, but I thank you, and I appreciate this award.”For so many years, VIBE has given me great, great, great covers, but I must say, I'm very, very disappointed at the cover this time, so Mimi, me and you really need to talk, as women."

In response to Mary's outlandish statement here is Mimi Valdes
    response:
    Dearest Mary,
Dissing VIBE while accepting our VLegend Award was extremely disappointing. I'm sorry you find your most recent cover insulting. It was definitely not our intention. If you look at the big picture, we've been supportive of your career beginning with the first issue of VIBE in the fall of '92. You've graced our cover seven times, more than any other artist.
Besides your desire to make a private conversation public, your accusations are untrue. How your hair looks on that cover is between you and your hairstylist. I swear, your hairline is no different than the Polaroids you saw at the shoot or the snapshots we printed in my What's Good column. In any case, you felt compelled to speak your peace, and at the end of the day, isn't this truly why we all love Mary in the first place?
One of the hardest things about working at VIBE is not to take things like this personally. For myself and the rest of the edit staff, working here is more than just a job. We take our roles as journalists very seriously, but we're die-hard fans as well. I'd be lying not to admit how hurt we were by the negativity you brought to our celebration, especially since you were being honored. After last year's incident, we went above and beyond to make this year's ceremony drama-free. We did not want to let '04's unfortunate events deter us from our mission to celebrate the best of the best in urban music. It's sad you did not share in this vision with us.

    Peace,

    Mimi ValdésEditor-in-Chief
