Surprise, Surprise another woman from the WNBA has come out of the closet. Is it just me or is it not surprising at all? It has been reported that WNBA five times All Star, and three time Olympic Winner Sheryl Swoopes has come out of the closet to ESPN Magazine. She is apparently tired of having to pretend to be someone that she isn’t, and she wants to be able to be with her partner (at time of this post her lover wasn’t known) and just love open and honestly. She is concerned about the backlash that may occur, and her biggest fear is that parents will deny her the opportunity to become role models for their children. All I have to say is Sheryl we had your number years ago. You aren’t telling us anything that we didn’t already know. I am not going to say that all lesbians play sports, but I will say that when you see an athletic woman, who has more of a masculine demeanor, one is only to assume that she is of the lesbianic lifestyle. The same way if we were to see a man who was a fashion designer, and had a feminine demeanor we would assume him to be gay. My theory is to assume everyone to be gay. That way I won’t be surprised if and when they decided to come out. His rap career is soaring with his new Platinum Hit CD Lets Get It Thug Motivation 101: and now the mother of his child Nicole Dykes wants a piece of the financial pie. According to AllHipHop.com Nicole is suing Mr. Jeezy for more child support. Ms. Dykes claims she is getting $178.00 a month, and claims that since Young Jeezy is now a platinum rapper she needs a subsequent raise to reflect his earnings...about $20,000.00 more a month. Despite reports that Young Jeezy is CEO of Corporate Thugz Entertainment, owns a mansion along with an enormous purple snowman diamond pendant, he claims that he is not the CEO of any company, that he is making 35.00 a day per diem, and that he doesn’t own any homes or vehicles. I think we all know better then that Young Jeezy. When hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, Louisiana, Atlanta’s Hip Hop radio station V103 had featured artists on the program to show support, and raise money. Among one of the artists was Mr. Jeezy. I personally recall Mr. Jeezy bragging, about his success, and how he told Lil Wayne that he could stay at his new home, until people were allowed to return to New Orleans. Mr. Jeezy was also personally acknowledged by V103 D.J. Frank Ski for allowing Katrina evacuee’s to stay at his home. In my opinion all a good attorney would have to do is subpoena V103’S D.J. Frank Ski and rapper Lil Wayne which would instantly show Mr. Jeezy to be worth more then he claims. I hope this works out for all parties involved. Does Ms. Sykes need $20,000.00? I am new to this city, and one of the things that I find most intresting are people’s infatuation with the Piedmont Park. Its nothing to see Atlanta’s Piedmont Park bustling with local suburbuinites(what I call them) walking there dogs, playing some football, or marching for the "cause of the week". It seems that this park in part is a huge back drop to the city of Atlanta. It’s that nice scenery you see but never really acknowledge. You definitely take it for granted because it’s so beautiful all the time. I have walked the paved paths to find your typical Jack Russell, Chihuahuas, Pugs, and Miniature Pincher’s being walked by what seems to be a large amount of burly, clean cut Abercrombie & Fitch guys who one is only assume are clearly of the homosexual lifestyle(calm down gays I could be wrong). I notice people unfolding there blankets, and unpacking the cooler to start there day of grilling, and relaxing in the shade. This park crowds at night as people all come together to watch Screen on the Green. A city sponsored event where old movies are played on a big canvas projection screen. If you sit quietly you will notice lots of interaction between the movie and the people who came to watch it. On the particular night I was there they played Faye Dunaway’s critically acclaimed movie Mommy Dearest. We all know that scene when she says “No more Wire Hangers!!!” almost in uniform everyone shouts it out, and laughs and cheers. You can look to your left or right and notice senior citizens dancing together, truly lost in the moment of romanticism. Though it was nice to observe, this is totally odd to me. I’m a southern Florida boy, and where I am from the climate is so humid that you’re drenched in sweat before you even got the cooler out of the car not to mention watching a movie outside “Are you insane???”. But I digress its apart of Atlanta’s culture and I can appreciate it for what it is.. Should you ever come to this truly fantastic city? Make sure the park is on your list of things to see. It breaks my heart to write this story, because I really don’t like to talk about people who I genuinely like. I grew up listening to this artist’s music, and with every song I hear I can remember about where I was, how old I was, and what was going on around that particular time in my life. But if I’m going to pursue my passion as a journalist I have to be completely objective, and treat everyone the same. With that said here we go…. It has been reported that Janet Jackson (39), and here one time Husband James Debarge(40) in fact have an 18 year old daughter. Young Debarge told a radio D.J. on SHOT 97(actually name HOT 97 but since they are always having gun shots there I think SHOT 97 is more suitable. Thanks Wendy) that Janet Jackson was in fact pregnant while they were married, had the child, and gave the child to Janet's Older sister Rebbie Jackson to raise. This isn’t the first time that this alleged child has come up, but this is the first that someone from the inside has made any direct statements regarding it. Janet Jackson has a long history of being not so up front with her personal life (I don’t blame her) but with that said it makes you not discount the story either. It was reported that Janet was married to Rene Elizondo, but denied there union until he actually came out with information, that informed the public that they were not only married, but they were filing for divorce. Remember the nipple gate debacle, and Janet denying that she had in fact premeditated that fiasco? Or when she and Jermaine Dupri started dating and that was originally denied? All those situations make you look at her with a crooked eye. Not in an evil way, but more so of a sly “what are you hiding” kind of way. We all know how private she is, and how she will deny everything until she is backed into the corner of truth (uh oh that should be a song Janet-The Corner of Truth). This time her camp has released a statement of “NO COMMENT!!!” We will have to see what happens next, but this story is posted EVERYWHERE so I have to believe to be true. On October 15th roads were crowded, and airplanes were full of hopeful, proud, African Americans celebrating unity and love in the great city of Washington D.C. The event was advertised as a reunion, and anniversary of the original Million Man March in 1995. I for one wasn’t old enough to attend the first ceremony, and I regret not being able to take part in what I believe originally was a movement. It was a celebration of being an African American, reflecting on how far we have come, and where we planned to go. Millions of dollars were raised to distribute towards various program within our own community, and people felt proud to say they were apart of the Million Man March 1995. Now fast forward 10 years later, and one has to think to themselves “Where have we gotten?” It seems to me that we have been truly stagnated in our progression to become unified within our own culture and community. Ten years have past and funds that were raised are still in question as to how they were distributed. Ten years have passed and we still have our own people such as Bill Cosby downing poor stricken African Americans, as well as questioning how young African American children are being raised by high school dropouts in the urban community (don’t understand the correlation, but its Bills comment not my own). Ten years have passed and we still have an increasingly high amount of African American men procreating with our women, and not taking the responsibility to use protection or take care of the children they create. Ten years later we still as a community refuse to address or accept our homosexual brothers and sisters. Ten years have passed, and we have not united to address the real reason why we are where we are and where (it seems) will remain. I consciously decided not attend the Million More March 2005. I thought to myself “This is some bullshit!”. We can’t even unite in our own cities, states, and regions but we are going to travel from far and near to superficially stand up and say “I love you brotha!” Please!!!!! I’m sure you heard about Keith Boynkin and his denial to speak to at the Million More March. If you’re not aware let me give you a quick recap. Keith Boynkin is a gay activist, and, was offered an opportunity by Minister Farrakhan to address gay African American issues. When he arrived to the stage to give his speech he was denied that opportunity by Reverend Willie Wilson. It seems they wanted all of our people to attend, or at least that was how it was advertised, but like always we segregate within our own people, and alas Keith Boykin got the raw end of that deal. It would seem to me that after Hurricane Katrina’s situation we would all reunited and realize that it is in fact “us” against “them”. I am just ranting my frustrations, and putting this cosmic question out to the universe. Hello All, I got a chance to get a sneak peak at the new movie rize before its release on October 25th, 2005. Rize is an incredibly gritty real life portrayal of an inner city youth movement known as "Clown Dancing". Dave LaChappelle brings his high color, and artful cinematography that shows the uniqueness of various rival dance teams. The story centers on Tommy the Clown (pictured to the right) and his desire to inspire and uplift the lives of the inner youth that surrounds him. This Documentary tells of Watts, and Compton’s youth and how they prevail when all adversity is thrown there way. In a city where drugs, gang violence, and broken homes are not unusual these kids find there own way by cultivating, and developing a form of dancing that has never been done before. Though the expressive dance form was intended to be a positive outlet for the young adults of Compton and Watts, it spawned a new more aggressive type of dance known to another group as “Krumpin”! These two groups compete in various competitions attempting to earn the crown as the best Clown dancing, or Krump dancers in the city. There stories are raw, real, and honest. I encourage all to check out this truly magnificent documentary that is sure to evoke dialogue as well as inspire all to prevail.
