I love the ‘Making The Band’ series, and I already have my two favorites from this season: New Orleans, Dawn, and Atlanta’s own D.Woods. But reality shows, and music acts mixed together don’t work!! With the exception of American Idol, reality shows take away the mystery of the artist, and the only reason why American Idol is working is because we don’t see the behind the scenes shenanigans that go on. MTV has had successful ratings with all the M.T.B. seasons, but Sean "Puffy/Diddy" Combs hasn’t had much success on the album charts. The premise of his show is great, you get the behind the scenes look at how groups are formed, but at the same time it’s not so great because you get the behinds the scenes look on how groups are formed. We are all front row to the insecurities, cat fights, attitudes, backstabbing, and childish antics that go on. In my opinion it takes away the mystery, and shows these girls as “regular” people, but we don’t want “regular” people, we want stars. Take this season for example. Puffy is trying to form his second (sorry ‘Dream’) all girl group to feel the void now that Destiny’s Child is no longer. He went through a difficult first season/second edition, going virtually state to state to find five “it” girls. When I say “he” of course I don’t mean Diddy (he’s much to “fly” for that), I meant his peoples: Laurie Ann, Andre Harrell, and Johnny Wright. After many months, and painstaking auditions which proved to be the hardest some of the girls had ever been apart of, he found and is forming his all girl group. There is one problem, two of them cant sing, one has a serious skin problem, the other has thighs for days, one is married (who the hell gets married and tries to be the next Destiny’s Child or TLC??), and the last one is so boring you could take disco naps when the camera is on her. I hate to say it but this group has no je ne sais quoi about them. They aren’t bad because they have more talent then most, but that isn’t enough. They need to be the total package, and I hate to say it Danity Kane, (what the hell is up with the name anyway?) isn’t it. Their new song ‘Show Stopper’LISTEN HERE isn’t believable: ”We in the car, we ride slow we doing things that the girls don’t do. The boys stare we smile back, all my girls in the Range Rover Cadillac’s “Yea!” What?????? As a fan and music critic I don’t believe them and if I don’t most people won’t either. They’re going to have to come with something better then this if they are to have at least a quarter of what D.C. and TLC had.

Now when we talk about MTB; season one/first edition, and season two/first edition, I truly felt that was talent. Hip-Hop is an art form that can’t be faked. You either got skills or you don’t. Freddie P. Babs Bunny, Chopper (Young City), Dylan, and Elliot Ness were on top of their game. Sarah was just a hook singer, and wasn’t given the opportunity to showcase her talent therefore I don’t know how good she truly was. But again the reason why the group wasn’t a success was because we saw all the behind the scenes nonsense. From Dylan going back and fourth to his probation officer, to Freddie P sucking his damn thumb, and fighting E. Ness, to watching Sarah try to hold down her family and respect her husband yet be the sex symbol of a group. They were doomed from the start. Though their CD ‘To Hot For T.V’ was off the hook. I still blast that album to this day, but the show blocked their talent because we felt like we knew them, and we watched a record deal basically handed to them. That caused a lot of resentment from industry insiders, and outsiders. They were labeled “spoiled” the album flopped and where are they now? E.ness, Babs, and Young are supposedly still affiliated with Bad Boy yet I haven’t heard anything official. It seems when the show ended so did they. Be wary aspiring singers, dancers, and musicians. If you are an artist trying to get into the game, avoid reality shows. They will do you more harm then good. Though it’s great TV, once the shows over so is your career.

Actress Meagan Good spoke with Boost Mobile correspondent Isoul Harris in an interview posted on Boost Mobile's website. Meagan discussed those paparazzi pictures that everyone emailed me showing Meagan and actor/singer Jamie Foxx kissing outside a Beverly Hills hotel. The photos screamed STAGED!

L Boogie drops a pair of scorching secret shows on San Francisco fans, delivering a blunt reminder of her vast talent.

With two hush-hush "rehearsal" shows at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco last night, Lauryn Hill silenced the skeptics, answered years of questions, and unveiled a reinvention of sorts.

Backed by a raucous 12-piece band, the Fugees centerpiece oozed passion and soul, showing off new material, some reimagined old hits, and an aplomb reminiscent of the late 1990s, when her Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album made her the biggest artist in the world for a time.

On this night, the frail-voiced woman whose raw emotion at her 2001 MTV Unplugged performance that caused many to worry about her state of mind, let alone her musical career, was transformed into a heat-seeking funk bomb. In an hour-plus set that didn't start until 1:15 a.m. and continued even after the venue operators had turned on the lights and cut off Hill's mic, it was as though James Brown himself had inhabited her body as she let out howls, shrieks, and fist pumps of encouragement to her band.

The band kicked off the set with an almost free jazz-style intro jam, with Hill taking the stage and almost immediately storming into a hyperspeed version of her hit "Lost Ones," rattling off telling lines like, "I was hopeless now I'm on hope road" in rapid-fire fashion. FULL STORY HERE

I’ve had this story for a week now but I did so much reporting on it last week I decided to wait a minute before posting it. Brandy Norwood is auditioning to take Star Jones Reynolds place on "The View". She will audition Wednesday July 5th and will return on Friday, July 7th. The former Moesha/and Teen Pop sensation is enjoying a career resurgence via “America’s Got Talent” a reality show created by “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell that searches for the next big star across multiple genres. Brandy recently told People magazine “America’s Got Talent’ has really opened a lot of doors for me. I want to do more TV” In related news Star Jones has posted the business address of Disney CEO Robert Iger on her WEBSITE. She urges her fans to send their complaints to the address. We love you Star, (O.K. that’s a stretch), we all agree you were done wrong, but c’mon nobody has time to be writing people on your behalf. Jill Scott is pleading for a boycott of songs that are degrading black women in lyrics and videos. She recently spoke at a seminar-“Who You Calling A Ho?” Jill urged the audience to stop supporting albums that offensively disrespect black women. Scott says “ It’s dirty, inappropriate, inadequate, unhealthy, and polluted. “We can demand more. Challenge the music industry with your purchasing power”. O1LT: Here’s the thing, though I agree with Jill that some music (lyrics/videos) isn’t helping the image of black women, or women period. Black woman don’t help the situation by allowing themselves to be portrayed disrespectfully in music videos. It also doesn’t help when I go out to a club and see woman gyrating and grinding their hips to the songs they deem disrespectful. I look at it like this: “If they can dance to it and allow me to grind with them to it, then it can’t be all that disrespectful.” Black women need to respect themselves FIRST and then demand it from others. The songs that Jill and Oprah say degrade women are the same songs that are atop of the Billboard charts. The popularity and sales of disrespectful music isn’t limited to men. Other woman support and perpetuate the disrespect (Trina, Khia, No Strings, even Lil Kim). It’s a lot deeper then they realize.

I'm not a hater I give credit where credit is due, but Nick Cannon needs to sit the hell down somewhere. I don’t know who’s….. Let me stop I don’t need a lawsuit. Anyway Nick is looking for a new video vixen for his new single “My Wife”. He claims that he is tired of seeing the same girls in every video. So he is on a national search looking for the total package. Ladies put your lip gloss on and get out there. Good Luck! In related news: Nick Cannon has a sex tape out. As already suspected Dallas Austin was issued a pardon in Dubia this morning after being arrested and charged with drug possession on May 19th 2006. No matter what you may feel for the rich and very well known, the one thing you shouldn't fell for them is sympathy. In recent weeks we’ve seen Britney Spears plead for her privacy. We have seen Brad and Angelina move to a secluded African city to be left alone. And we have also seen Dallas Austin’s weak attempt to garner some anonymity after being arrested for having 1.26 grams of cocaine in his pocket in the U.A.E.(United Arab of Emirates) If you have ears then of course you have heard about the Star Jones Reynolds controversy, and while you may want to empathize with them you must remember one thing. Publicity does more good for celebrities then harm will ever do. Actors, musicians, producers, high profile sports figures, and even reality show wannabes rely on the press to keep their names on the tips of everyone’s tongues. Some have much success with it-Take Jacob The Jeweler for instance: He was arrested last month and charged with money laundering $ 270 million dollars for the Black Mafia Family (BMF). A charge he denies, but the minute the story broke his shoe collection “J & Co. Sneaker Collection” doubled in sales. Who ever said crime doesn’t pay obviously isn’t or wasn’t a celebrity. Kimberly Jones. A.K.A. “Lil Kim” is being released from prison and has already signed a deal to do a second season of her hit reality show “Countdown to Lockdown”. DMX is constantly in and out of jail yet has signed a lucrative multimillion dollar recording deal with Sony. But others don’t- Take Lil Bow Wow for example. The much hyped “relationship” between he and Ciara showed it may have done more harm then good. Bow Wow’s record sales didn’t soar like expected after being linked to the up and coming superstar with their duet “Like You”. If anything it seemed that Ciara being linked to Bow Wow would have hurt her career long-term if she publicly stayed with him. So what happened?? They broke up. Does anyone remember when Ray J. claimed that he used to be in a gang? That was a calculated story dropped in hopes it would boost record sales and shed that “Brandy’s little brother” image (it didn’t work). And of course we can’t forget about Brandy lying about her marriage to that producer (what’s his name again?) which spawned a MTV reality show, just to explode in her face as he went on “The Wendy Williams Experience” and blew up her spot claiming they were never married.

Times are and have been changing for a long time now. Whether its good or bad celebrities want to be talked about! They will claim publicly that they don’t. But keeping their names in magazines keeps “us” talking about them and it keeps “us” interested. Nowadays talent alone won’t solidify you as a star. There has to be some scandal, drama, or innuendo surrounding you for you to truly reach that star status. I get emails and comments daily from people asking me why I do what I do. Why do I show a “no holds barred” approach to reporting even the most embarrassing stories about people I barely know anything about? And to that I say: “Because they want me to!!!” People talk about people on a daily basis. But when you’re a celebrity talking about them daily is BIG business, and needed to ensure a certain level of success. Let’s go back to this Dallas Austin situation for a moment. Though the U.A.E. has strict drug laws, I don’t see Dallas doing any hard time. I’m sure he will get the pardon that has been submitted by his defense. He will come back to Atlanta and do a bunch of interviews with local media “CNN” included and he will drop some new music. It will be a hit and “poof” we’re on to the next celebrity story promoting someone else’s mess.

It’s the world we have made for ourselves and hate it or love you come to http://o1lt.com and others like mine to catch up on what’s going on in the world of celebrities. It’s a big business that ultimately satisfies everyone. So again I say:
