Few people can sing like Whitney Houston. But next week, anyone with some spare cash can dress like the Grammy winner, right down to one of her black velvet bustiers, and croon into one of her microphones.
Those items and more than 300 others from a 1999 world tour, including grand pianos, drum kits and a forklift, will be auctioned Tuesday in an effort to cover unpaid storage fees on the gear and clothing, said Jeffrey Campisi, a lawyer for Speed of Sound, a company that has been tending to the equipment. A quick glance at this week's Billboard albums chart shows not only what finished on top — R&B hunk Omarion's sophomore LP, 21 — but the large number of albums that sustained painful post-Christmas sales hits.
For the second time in his brief career as a solo artist, the ex-member of B2K scores himself a chart-topping opening, selling 119,000-plus copies of his latest. Omarion's first LP, 2005's O, also bowed at #1 but sold about 60,000 more units FULL STORY
It is my belief tha
t shows like MTV’s “Sweet 16” is ruining the fabric of our young social society. Was that a bit much? Ok let me put it more plainly— MTV’s “Sweet 16” is making spoiled brats the new trend amongst kids these days. If you haven’t watched the highly entertaining, yet questionable reality program, then let me educate you on what the premise of this show is. Somewhere along the chronological line we’ve all come to hail the dawn of the 16th birthday. When I was growing up, like many of you, when a girl turns 16 years old it seems to be celebrated as a right of passage from a girl transforming into a woman. But, times have apparently changed as MTV has acted as the fly on the wall to overly spoiled teenagers on their hit new reality show.
Middle to upper class parents open up their wallets and their 401k’s to assure that his or her child’s B-day celebration is of “celebrity status”. On one episode you can see a 16 year old teenager manipulating her father into receiving an all white 2005 Range Rover. In another you can see the son of LA Reid handing out ipods where there is a pre-recorded invitation awaiting his eager party invitee.
When this show debuted I thought it was interesting. Though, I had my concerns I thought it was harmless. However, now that this show is in its second season (or is it third), I’m starting to look at it with a crooked eye. What you see now more often then not are the parents who are trying to get their 15 minutes of fame by shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars to make all their young adult’s dreams come true. As noble of gesture it may be. What does it teach our young adolescents? Am I the only one who finds fault in giving a young person
everything their heart desire? How do they learn to appreciate it? Most, if not all, of the kids on this show don’t even hold down part time jobs.
My sentiments were echoed yesterday morning on Atlanta’s popular radio show Frank Ski and Wanda’s Morning Show. On today’s program, Frank Ski has decided to take his children on an all expense paid trip to China, when V103 has their annual out of country excursion, in a couple of months. Funny co-host Wanda. and traffic reporter, Faith Jones, were both eminently against the idea stating that lavish trips as sucht might spoil his children rather then provide them cultural enlightenment that Mr. Ski is trying to provide them with.
Is it me, or have we all as parents tried to give our children everything we never got and in the end are destroying their value system?
Somebody help me understand this? But, in the meantime check out this clip that juicy-news.blogspot has provided.
Can somebody please, for the love of God, hand Puffy the memo that his rap career is OVER. He just refuses to give up. He's released another single from what is arguably the biggest flop of 2006--Press Play. It's sad to watch an old timer cling to the spotlight in such a desperate manner.
