JENA SIX, MY OPEN LETTER!!
Dear Bloggers,
With so much devastating news regarding the Jena Six recently, I have been totally overwhelmed with sadness and grief. It’s a new emotion for me, because I’ve never been one to get emotional over much that doesn't deal directly with who L.T. is or does. But I am; and in that sadness lies a great deal of anger towards some of my fellow bloggers’ irresponsible and reckless coverage of the unfortunate, racially charged acts of our recent time. Some have belittled the incident that occurred in Jena as just some “unfair fight that had 6 Black ganging up on 1 White kid”. Others are saying “violence is never the answer, no matter what someone says or does”. But to utilize your positions as a news source for many people and talk negatively, or not at all, about Jena Six puts my disappointment in a place of unmaintainable proportions. I never realized how much race relations could affect an individual until now, but alas here I stand.
The unfortunate incidences that have occurred in Jena, LA, Douglasville, GA and New Orleans, LA have reinforced a very disturbing and an obviously apparent fact about the United States of America. There are still parts of this country that don’t care about Black people. This country will continue to deliver harsh injustices day after day after day until their purpose has been served. What purpose that is, I don’t really want to say, because at the heart of it I truly cant put it into words.
For all the well-known African American bloggers that chose to overlook the unfortunate acts of Jena Six should be ashamed of themselves. Instead of using your platform to unify a people for equality and justice for all, some have decided to use their platform to drive the wedge of division even more between them and us. No one with an ounce of common sense, or compassion can look at ALL the evidence of this heinous situation and not determine that it wasn’t racially motivated. Some people are focusing on Mychal Bell’s prior criminal history, and are basing this incident with his previous one(s). But, I personally feel that’s not right or even the smart thing to do. Those incidences had nothing to do with three noose’s hanging from a tree in their high school. I stand before you all a very smart, articulate, and most importantly understanding human being. But I couldn’t tell you what my reaction would be if I were to come to a public school, a school that civil rights leaders like Malcom X or Martin Luther King, fought for me to attend and witness such blatant human disrespect.
The actions that took place in Jena, as unfortunate as it was, I believe were a result of a racist community that pushed young African American youth into a corner and they came lashing out. And for my Black bloggers to either ignore this issue, or to talk negatively about the Black men involved should be truly ashamed of themselves. I can’t tell you how to run your respective sites. But in this instance, if you aren’t going to choose to be apart of the solution please don’t become apart of the problem.

I am sooo happy that someone decided to say it!!!! I hate the fact that some people are trying to say that this isn't a racist situation. No matter which way you try to flip it, the situation would have never escalated to that level if there was not a whites only tree.
Let's be serious, this is one of the many occurences that have happened to prove that racism is still a living monster. Just to point that out doesn't make you a black person who blames white people for everything. It makes you aware...and smart.
Good job
Amen to that! I totally agree with you.
Well put!! I love this website. I actually took the time and read a lot of comments on this subject. Which were on different websites. I was truly upset that in the 21st century we still have ignorance in our race.
What started this whole thing were nooses hanging from a tree. I am not one to respond to pure ignorance but this incident made me mad. NOW VIOLENCE IS NEVER THE ANSWER I even teach my daughter to walk away. But enough is enough.
I live in Colorado where racism is undercover. But if I saw a noose hanging from a tree I know this my a** would be sitting in jail for assault charges!!! You never know what you will do until you are put in that situation.
Well said my brother!!!
I still can't fathom the views of a female blogger who shall remain nameless. How someone could be so upset over a house of dereon ad and not understand what the Jena 6 issue is all about perplexes me!!!
Thanks L.T.!!!!!
ITS SAD BUT ITS GOING TO TAKE A MILLION YEARS FOR US NOT TO BE CALLED NI**ERS AND FOR US TO BE STILL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TOTEM. WE WILL FOREVER PROTEST, MARCH AND SO ON AND STILL BE LOOKED AS NOTHING. AND I HATE IT, ITS SO UNFAIR. I CAN SAY THAT NOW WE CAN VOTE, SPEAK, AND DATE WHAT EVER RACE WE WANT COMPARED TO 50 YEARS AGO BUT THERE IS ALWAYS A STRUGGLE. :'(
Thank-you !
I agree 100% it is too bad that some bloggers can articulate on beyonce all day and what purse some celebrity friend carries but does not have the patience to review all the information of a case that should concern her community.
It makes me rethink visiting a site that ignores reality and hates their own race!
who are wet talking about?! please say the name of the blogger, i hate when people talk in riddles or around something, if you ain't scared then same names!!! lol. seriously though, i'd like to know who this black blogger is that's making ignorant comments about the Jena 6. and ol1t, i'm starting to like your blog a little bit more. you're posting more frequently and you're discussing a wide variety of topics--- keep it up.
Thank you LT! Blatant injustice is rampant and always has been, so the protests are important and needed. We need some atonement going on. The only thing constant is change, and Lord, economics is another issue.

oh, sandra rose....yeah, i don't like her blog very much. beyonce can be annoying but for someone to sit around and pick apart everything that she does is kind scary. i have a list of celebrity blogs that i visit everyday and hers is not on my list, i'm sorry but she's too ugly to be talking about people like that, lol.
L.T.
AMEN!!
As an blogger, I too feel the same as you. Instead of belittling the situation, this was (and still is) the perfect opportunity to unite.
