O1LT.COM "CONTROL MYSELF" MUSIC REVIEW!!

Control Myself/ Def Jam
There is a time to shine, and a time to call it quits. Some would say it’s been time for L.L. Cool J to do just that for quite awhile. Hip hop has evolved and it is abundantly clear that Mr. Smith just can’t keep up anymore. His new effort “Control Myself” featuring Jennifer Lopez puts him at a club trying to dance with girls, and him having to: (you guessed it) “Control Himself”. First off to make a song work their needs to be a sense of believability, and authenticity. Are we really supposed to believe Mr. Smith (38); father, and husband to be gyrating his hips at a club with various women? His rhymes in this particular song are so unbelievably simple they remind me of other simple rappers who have come and gone, but not of the G.O.A.T. There is no reason for Jennifer Lopez to even be on this track. It’s a train wreck all its own without her adding to it. I can’t put this musical disaster completely on her (though she helped with her lackluster vocal ability to make the hook hot). The song is just corny, outdated, and non-evolving. To Jermaine Dupri’s credit the beat is signature Durpi. He is always changing up his style. But a hot beat without a M.C. to carry it, and a singer who can’t carry the hook makes the song garbage. Though this duo had success with their first collaboration (All I have/Sony). Lightning in this case does not strike twice. If this single is any indication of the entire album, looks like I will be passing “Todd Smith” by in stores.
